Father Mathias is from Cameroon, his native tongue is Bassa. He is also fluent in English, French, Italian and he is currently working on his Spanish.

He is the third of seven siblings – five boys and two girls. Growing up, Father Mathias only attended Catholic school and went to Mass with his family daily. Serving the church early on helped him discern his vocation at a young age.

“I knew that I wanted to be a priest ever since I was an altar server as a young boy” he said.
He entered the seminary in Cameroon, and his formation continued in Rome, Italy, where he studied theology and attained his PhD in Social Sciences at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
His ordination took place on July 8, 2000, in Cameroon. Since then, he has taken on assignments as parochial vicar in different parishes in Italy. Now, Father Mathias is happy to be in Colorado.
“I like Denver because of the mountains,” he said. “Denver reminds me of my country.”
In his free time, you’ll find Father Mathias reading or playing tennis. His favorite aspect of   being a priest is to be with the people.
