Mission
We are a group of Christian women coming together at Queen of Peace Parish (as a faith community) seeking to follow Jesus Christ as friends and disciples by building the Kingdom of Christ through working together in harmony and spreading the Good News of Salvation not only to our own parish community but to other mothers who wish to be a part of our community. Good communication and stewardship are necessary keys to fulfilling this commitment.
Moms and Kids (also known as MAK) is meant to be a fun group that can get together and offer each other support through friendship and prayer. New members are always welcome and you do not have to be a member of Queen of Peace to be a member of Mom and Kids. |
Spiritual Aspects :
Voluntary sharing of intentions weekly: We begin each meeting with a Prayer. Members add requests for prayers for their intentions as they feel comfortable.
Prayer chain for crisis situations: When a member has a family crisis, she can call the Chaplain and request that she start a prayer chain.
Annual Retreat: When feasible, Mom and Kids offers a retreat focusing on spiritual aspects of motherhood.
Service projects: Mom and Kids contributes to Queen of Peace’s efforts with the Friends of St. Andrews, by helping assemble layettes, Christmas stockings, and Easter baskets. We also participate and help with parish activities such as Fun Fest.
Weekly Meetings:
Childcare: Mom and Kids hires teachers to assist with the care of the children so that moms can participate in the meeting without their children if they so choose. Age appropriate activities allow children to play and learn with other children, and can be a valuable step in developing social skills. Many of the children prefer to stay with their moms, and this is fine with us. Childcare can be used as you and your child feel comfortable.
Meeting Information:
Moms and Kids meets on Thursday mornings, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. during the school year
We usually alternate weeks with speakers and social days.
Speaker topics vary but are intended to provide information that would be useful in our parenting or our faith, or could be something for entertainment such as a craft activity. We also use meeting times for our service projects.
Social Days provide members with time for fellowship and an opportunity to get to know one another better.
