PREPARING TO GROW DEEPER INTO DISCIPLESHIP TO DEEPEN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In today’s Gospel we are reminded that the path to the Kingdom of God is through the narrow gate. “For many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ He will say to you in reply, ‘I do not know where you are from. And you will say, ‘We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.’ Then he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!’” (Lk 13;24-27.) It’s tempting for many of us to want to take the “easy” approach in life – to want to remain in our comfort, closed in within ourselves, separate from what is different from us. But the Lord calls us to much more. He calls on us to step out of our comfort, to pick up our cross and live as true Disciples of Christ.

In the coming weeks, we will begin to embrace Discipleship more closely and personally. You may remember earlier this year, we focused on Discipleship of talent, and the answer was overwhelming. Many of you took that opportunity to commit your time and talent to the Lord, signing up for one or several of the different ministries available in our parish, and you are already seeing many graces from it. Now, will focus on Faith and Prayer, and living Discipleship in a more intense way. We will all commit to spending a specific amount of time each week in prayer with the Lord and to learning more about our faith. We will do this together, as a parish family, walking towards Christ and allowing Discipleship to become our way of life.

Discipleship brings us to the Lord and gives us a new, deeper relationship with Him. Other parishes, here in our archdiocese, have adopted discipleship as a way of life and are reaping the fruits today. Their parish has become more alive, and parishioners see their lives changed. “When Discipleship is practiced well, we are changed into the people that God intends us to be. When Jesus says ‘Go and make disciples,’ it means we have to be disciples ourselves. We cannot give away what we don’t have. When we ask the question ‘How do we grow closer to God?’ we realize that we have to know God in a personal way. All the theology and all the ideas we have about God cannot interfere with our personal relationship with God.

To love Him is to serve Him. Love motivates us to give ourselves completely to God. The spirituality of Discipleship sees love in terms of giving. The experience of giving ourselves personally to God helps us to become the disciples He has called us to be. Once we become a disciple, we can go and make other disciples. The parish becomes alive in Discipleship spirituality. We truly discover that God is personal and can be known personally” (“Making Stewardship a Way of Life” by Father Andrew Kemberling and Mila Glodava.)

Let us be open to this new relationship the Lord wants to have with us.

PREPARANDONOS PARA LA PRÓXIMA FASE DE DISCIPULADO, FE Y ORACION, PARA PROFUNDIZAR NUESTRA RELACION CON CRISTO

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

El Evangelio de hoy nos recuerda que el camino hacia el Reino de Dios es por la puerta angosta. "pues yo les aseguro que muchos tratarán de entrar y no podrán. Cuando el dueño de la casa se levante de la mesa y cierre la puerta, ustedes se quedarán afuera y se pondrán a tocar la puerta, diciendo: '¡Señor, ábrenos!' Pero él les responderá: 'No sé quiénes son ustedes'. Entonces le dirán con insistencia: 'Hemos comido y bebido contigo y tú has enseñado en nuestras plazas'. Pero él replicará: 'Yo les aseguro que no sé quiénes son ustedes. Apártense de mí todos ustedes los que hacen el mal'" (Lc 13; 24-27). Es tentador para muchos de nosotros querer vivir de manera "facil", en nuestra comodidad, dentro de nosotros mismos, apartados de lo que es diferente a nosotros. Pero el Señor nos llama a mucho más. Nos llama a salir de nuestra comodidad, de cargar con nuestra cruz, y vivir como verdaderos discipulos de Cristo.

En las próximas semanas, iniciaremos nuestra nueva fase de Discipulado. Como recordaran, hace algunos meses nos enfocamos en el Discipulado de talento, y la respuesta fue muy positiva. Muchos de ustedes tomaron la oportunidad de poner su tiempo y talento al servicio de nuestra parroquia, sirviendo en uno de nuestros diversos ministerios, y ya estan recibiendo gracia de ello. Esta próxima fase de Discipulado se enforcará en la Fe y la Oración. Todos nos compremeteremos a un tiempo especifico para rezar cada semana y para aprender más sobre nuestra fe. Lo haremos juntos, como familia parroquial, caminando hacia Cristo, permitiendo que el Discipulado se convierta en nuestra manera de vida.

El Discipulado nos acerca al Señor y nos da una nueva relación con Él más profunda. Otras parroquias aquí en nuestra Arquidiocesis ya han adoptado al Discipulado como manera de vida y hoy en dia disfrutan de sus frutos. Su parroquia tiene vida nueva y los parroquianos han visto como han cambiando sus vidas para bien. "Cuando el Discipulado se practica bien, somos transformados a la gente que Dios quiere que seamos. Cuando Jesús dice: 'Id y haced discípulos', significa que nosotros mismos tenemos que ser discípulos. No podemos dar lo que no tenemos. Cuando hacemos la pregunta '¿Cómo nos acercamos a Dios?' Nos damos cuenta de que tenemos que conocer a Dios de una manera personal. Toda la teología y todas las ideas que tenemos acerca de Dios no pueden interferir en nuestra relación personal con Dios.

Amarlo es Servirle. El amor nos motiva a entregarnos completamente a Dios. La espiritualidad del Discipulado ve el amor en términos de dar. La experiencia de entregarnos personalmente a Dios nos ayuda a ser los discípulos que Él nos ha llamado a ser. Una vez que llegamos a ser un discípulo, podemos ir y hacer otros discípulos. La parroquia se hace viva en la espiritualidad del Discipulado. Realmente descubrimos que Dios es personal y puede ser conocido personalmente "(" Making Stewardship a Way of Life" por el P.
