PHYSICAL REBUILDING OPENS THE DOOR TO SPIRITUAL REBUILDING AND THE SALVATION OF SOULS

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I want to continue sharing with you the graces we received in our recent pilgrimage to Italy, because they help us to fulfill our mission here at Queen of Peace.  By seeing, in person, the impact of our early Christian brothers and sisters’ answer to God’s call, we were inspired to respond with the same zeal.

I personally, was touched by our visit to Assisi, home of St. Francis, whom God called to bring renewal to the Church. St. Francis had everything the world – then and now – said would make him happy: wealth, recognition, privilege, pleasure, etc. But God gave him a mission. God told St. Francis, “Go, Francis, and repair my house, which as you see is falling into ruin.” St. Francis took that message literally. He sold clothing from his father’s shop and a horse to raise money to rebuild the church of St. Damiano. Angry at what St. Francis had done, his father took him to the local bishop, who advised St. Francis to return the money. There, St. Francis gave away everything he had, stripping away his clothes, and becoming naked in the square of Assisi.

We see in this moment of conversion that through Christ, St. Francis was able to freely renounce everything and give of himself completely, to answer God’s call. He went on to do a physical rebuilding of three churches: St. Damiano, St. Peter, and the Porziuncola, all of which we were blessed to visit on our pilgrimage. St. Francis gathered with his first disciples around these buildings and taught them a new way of life, of poverty and radical following of the Gospel that Jesus had inspired him to live.

It was later Pope Innocent III who led St. Francis to fully understand God’s mission for him. In a dream, he saw St. Francis holding the church with his hands. The pope helped St. Francis understand that his renewal was meant to go beyond the buildings all the way into the morals, teaching, preaching and loving of the Mystical Body of Christ.

The witness of St. Francis shows us that there is a link between church building renewal and spiritual renewal. His physical rebuilding of the churches facilitated the creation of a community and opened the way for the spiritual rebuilding of the Church. St. Francis’ mission mirrors our current work at Queen of Peace. As you know, we are in the initial stages of rebuilding our Parish Center. We are answering the Lord’s call to construct a beautiful new space, for Him and for the fulfillment of the mission He has entrusted to us – a space to build communion among parish brothers and sisters, to grow in faith, to encounter Jesus Christ, and to share the Good News. To rebuild our Parish Center is to rebuild and reinforce the living faith of our Queen of Peace community for the salvation of thousands of souls.

So let us take St. Francis as an inspiration, and allow the Lord to work in us so that we too may give of ourselves completely to answer His call.

RECONSTRUCCIÓN FÍSICA ABRE LA PUERTA PARA LA RECONSTRUCCIÓN ESPIRITUAL Y LA SALVACIÓN DE ALMAS

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Quiero continuar compartiendo las gracias que recibimos en nuestra reciente peregrinación a Italia, porque nos ayudan a cumplir con nuestra misión aquí en Reina de la Paz. Al ver, en persona, el impacto que tuvo la respuesta de nuestros hermanos y hermanas de la iglesia primitiva, fuimos inspirados a responder con el mismo fervor.

Yo personalmente fui conmovido por nuestra visita a Asís, casa de San Francisco, a quien Dios llamó para la renovación de la Iglesia. San Francisco tenía todo lo que el mundo – en ese entonces y hoy en día – dice que nos hace feliz: riqueza, reconocimiento, privilegio, placer, etc. Pero Dios le dio una misión. Le dijo,” ¡Francisco, vete y repara mi casa, que, como ves, está a punto de arruinarse toda ella!” San Francisco tomo el mensaje literalmente. Vendió ropa de la tienda de su padre y un caballo para recaudar dinero para reconstruir la iglesia de San Damián. Enojado por lo que había hecho, su padre lo llevo con el obispo local, quien le aconsejo a San Francisco a regresar el dinero. Ahí, San Francisco dio todo lo que tenía, quitándose la ropa, y desnudándose en la plaza de Asís.

Vemos en este momento de conversión, que a través de Cristo, San Francisco pudo renunciar a todo libremente y dar de sí mismo completamente, para responder a la llamada de Dios. Entonces, realizo la reconstrucción física de tres iglesias: San Damián, San Pedro, y Porciúncula, las cuales tuvimos la bendición de visitar en nuestra peregrinación. San Francisco reunió a sus primeros discípulos en esos edificios y les enseño un nuevo estilo de vida, de pobreza, y seguimiento radical del Evangelio que Jesús le inspiro a vivir.

Fue más adelante que el Papa Inocencio III llevo a San Francisco a entender por completo la misión que Dios tenia para él. En un sueño, vio a San Francisco sosteniendo a la iglesia con sus manos. El Papa ayudó a San Francisco a entender que su renovación estaba destinada a ir más allá de los edificios, hacia los morales, enseñanza, y amor del Cuerpo Místico de Cristo.

El testimonio de San Francisco nos muestra que hay un vínculo entre la renovación de los edificios de la iglesia y la renovación espiritual. Su reconstrucción física de las iglesias facilitó la creación de una comunidad y abrió el camino para la reconstrucción espiritual de la Iglesia. La misión de San Francisco refleja nuestro trabajo actual en Reina de la Paz. Como ya saben, estamos en las etapas iniciales de la reconstrucción de nuestro Centro Parroquial. Estamos respondiendo a la llamada del Señor de construir un nuevo espacio bello para Él y para el cumplimiento de la misión que Él nos ha confiado – un espacio para crear comunión entre hermanos parroquiales, para crecer en la fe, tener un encuentro con Jesucristo, y compartir la Buena Nueva. El reconstruir nuestro Centro Parroquial es reconstruir y reforzar la fe viviente de nuestra comunidad de Reina de la Paz para la salvación de miles de almas.

Así que seamos inspirados por San Francisco, y dejemos que el Señor trabaje en nosotros para que también nosotros podamos dar de nosotros mismos por completo para responder a su llamada.
