Synthesis of the Apostolic Exhortation “The Joy Of The Gospel”
Vatican City, 26 November 2013 (VIS) - “The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus”; thus begins the Apostolic Exhortation “Evangelii Gaudium”, by which Pope Francis develops the theme of the proclamation of the Gospel in the contemporary world, drawn from, among other sources, the contribution of the work of the Synod held in the Vatican from 7 to 28 October 2012 on the theme “The new evangelization for the transmission of the faith”. The text, which the Holy Father consigned to a group of thirty-six faithful following the closing Mass of the Year of Faith last Sunday is the first official document of his pontificate, since the Encyclical “Lumen fidei” was written in collaboration with his predecessor, Benedict XVI. “I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come”, he continues. It is a heartfelt appeal to all baptized persons to bring Christ’s love to others, “permanently in a state of mission”, conquering “the great danger in today’s world”, that of an individualist “desolation and anguish”.
Pope Francis: Time Belongs to God
Calls on Faithful To Ask For Virtues of Prayer and Discernment
Vatican City, November 26, 2013
Despite that many times we feel we our masters of time, only Jesus Christ is the master of time. Pope Francis stressed this point during his homily at Casa Santa Marta this morning.
Referring to today’s Gospel, which recalls Christ’s words on the end of time, the Holy Father called on the faithful to ask for the grace of discernment and prayer to live this moment: and for hope in this time.
“In this road towards the end of our path, of each one of us and also of all humanity, the Lord advises us two things, two things that are different, they are different according to how we live, because it is different to live in the moment and different to live in time,” the Pope said.

A Pastoral Letter on the Year of Faith and its Impact
By Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila
November 21, 2013
Memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The end of the Year of Faith is upon us, and it has been a time of great grace that has created spiritual momentum in the Church. Many have asked me—“What comes next?” and this pastoral letter is my reply.
This past September when I went to Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Shrine for our Year of Faith archdiocesan pilgrimage, I saw the graces of the year at work among the pilgrims. One couple had dedicated their marriage to Our Lady of Guadalupe 58 years ago on their honeymoon and came back with us to give thanks to her for leading them to Christ and bringing his blessings to their marriage.
Other faithful from the archdiocese experienced peace, healing and confirmation in their faith at the holy sites we visited, especially the house of St. Juan Diego’s uncle, Juan Bernardino, who was healed of an illness through Our Lady’s intercession. Many learned for the first time of Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J., and the Cristo Rey Martyrs.
Fifty years ago, Vatican II spoke of communications. Let us listen to, dialogue with, and bring to Christ all those we encounter in life.
We are all called to be friends with Jesus. Don’t be afraid to love the Lord.
